The Lees-McRae women's basketball team saw Alyssa Munson score 16 points at Wingate (N.C.) University Thursday, but it was not enough as the Bobcats suffered a 76-53 setback to wrap up the

2013 portion of the schedule.

Munson (Summerfield, N.C.) posted her seventh straight double-digit scoring effort to go along with seven rebounds in the contest. The sophomore has raised her scoring average up to a team-best 13.4.

Kabrina Truesdale (Wilmington, N.C.) chipped in nine points while Niroska Perez (Asheville, N.C.) contrubited eight bench points for Lees-McRae. Kasey Haynes (Mooresville, N.C.) also came off the bench with a season-high 26 minutes of action with a block, five rebounds and three assists. Layana De Souza (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) also dished out three assists for the Bobcats in the contest.

The home squad jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the opening 2:38 of action. Lees-McRae chipped away at the margin and eventually took a 21-20 lead thanks to a Tayler Collins (Fayetteville, N.C.) score with 6:27 left in the first half. Wingate, now 8-1 on the season, answered with a three pointer and never trailed again. Lees-McRae faced a 34-24 deficit at halftime. The Bobcats saw the margin grow to 31, 65-34, but Lees-McRae closed the game on a 21-11 run in the final 8:05.

Wingate's Kayla Harris led all scorers with 25 points to go along with 11 rebounds. Janitsha Williams posted a dozen points while Shelby Tricoli and Morgan McGee both finished with 11 points.

Lees-McRae returns to action January 4 when the squad goes to Belmont Abbey for a Conference Carolinas meeting scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. before returning to Williams Gym to play Erskine (S.C.) Jan. 8 at 5:30 p.m. The Bobcats will begin the 2014 portion of the schedule with an overall record of 4-7 and a 1-1 league record.
