Rebecca Hayes is taking her volleyball talents to the collegiate level.
The Watauga High senior makes it official this afternoon when she signs her National Letter of Intent with Trinity University, a Division III school in San Antonio, TX., and a member of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
And she joins a strong volleyball program that finished its season with a record of 36-7, earning its 16th SCAC Championship, and its 11th trip to the Round of 16 at the NCAA Tournament.
Hayes had a huge year for the Pioneers with 259 kills and a 415 hitting percentage. She also had 70 solo blocks and 108 total blocks her senior year with 59 aces.
Hayes had 790 career kills, 186 blocks, 307 total blocks and 137 aces. She was a two-time all-conference selection, and she was also a member of WHS' Northwestern 3A/4A Conference championship team in 2011.
That team also made it to the Class 4A Western Finals in 2011, losing to Charlotte-Providence, which won the title that year.
Hayes, a four-year letter winner, was also chosen to the Carolina Region High Performance Team in 2012, and she was one of 14 players added to the North Carolina 2013 Under Armour Watch List.
Academically, Hayes has a 3.88 grade-point-average, and she is also a member of the National Honor Society and she ranks 22nd in her class.
