WHS Indoor Track Opens Season PDF Print

The Watauga High boy's and girl's indoor track teams officially got their respecitive seasons Friday at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.

 

 

The Pioneers posted 11 top-five finishes. Alison Seramur won WHS' only event of the day as she finished first in the girl's pole vault, clearing the bar with an effort of ten-feet, six inches. Savanna Randle turned in a fifth-place finish for the WHS girls in the 300-meter run as she crossed the finish line in 45.86 seconds.

 

Kathleen Mansure, a state qualifier in cross country, finished third in the girl's 1,600 (5:53.24), She also helped the WHS girls's 4x800 relay team (she was joined by a pair of freshmen on that team, Madison Scruggs and Finley Collins) to a fifth-place finish (13:01.25); she was also a member of the girl's 4x400 relay team (Kennedy Kavanaugh, Grace Plyler, and Randle) that finished fourth (4:43.59).

 

Collins finished third in the girl's 1,000 (3:45.35).

 

For the boys, Zach Styron turned in a fifth-place finish in the boy's 55-meter hurdles (8.70), Jacob Soule finished third in the 3,200 (10:20.28), Deshaun Grimes finished fourth in the triple jump with an effort of 33-00.50, Zack Pifer tied for third in the high jump (5-04) and Matthew Hall finished fourth in the pole vault (10 feet).

 

WHS travels back to Winston-Salem for the North Stokes meet on Monday, December 16.

 

WHS FRESHMAN LOSE OPENER

 

 

The Watauga High boy's freshman basketball team lost its opener at Alexander Central Friday night, 42-22. Justin Hollars led WHS with 14 points; Lance Presnell and Bryers Carney each had a three pointer. The freshman team play Alexander Central at home on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
