Bobcats Kick Off Indoor Season at ASU PDF Print

Kayla Powell (Moyock, N.C.) finished 11th in the shot put and 17th in the weight throw to pace the Lees-McRae College women's track and field team at the Appalachian State University Invitational on Friday in the Holmes Convocation Center.

 

Powell kicked off the meet with a mark of 10.17 meters in the weight throw, placing 17th, as Makayla Boswell (Mocksville, N.C.) cleared 1.50 meters in her collegiate high jump debut to finish 10th. Powell followed with a strong performance in the shot put, placing 11th with a mark of 10.86 meters.

 

Erin Bingham (Mocksville, N.C.) and Boswell finished 16th and 18th, respectively, with times of 1:05.09 and 1:08.54 in the 400-meter dash, while Jasmine Foreman (Eight Mile, Ala.) crossed the line with a mark of 29.14 seconds in the 200-meter dash.

 

Senior Devan Mackey (Hickory, N.C.) posted a pair of top-10 performances to pace the Lees-McRae College men's track and field team to a strong season-opening weekend at the Appalachian State University Invitational in the Holmes Convocation Center.

 

Mackey opened the weekend with a ninth-place showing in the weight throw, posting a mark of 12.85 meters, as Joshua Godwin (Pleasant Grove, N.C.) placed 15th with a toss of 10.70 meters. The duo placed 10th and 16th, respectively in the shot put, recording marks of 12.03 and 11.33 meters in the event.

 

Razhede Highsmith (Gastonia, N.C.) paced the Bobcats with a time of 6.72 seconds in the 55-meter dash, placing 13th, as Davante Scott (Hopkins, S.C.) finished 12th in the triple jump with a mark of 12.73 meters. Pablo Gavillan (Orlando, Fla.) and Scott placed 13th and 17th, respectively in the 400-meter dash, while Charles Coleman (Walnut Grove, N.C.) posted a time of 54.60 seconds. Highsmith capped the day with a mark of 24.19 in the 200-meter dash.

 

Lees-McRae returns to action on Friday, January 17, 2014 when the Bobcats travel to Johnson City, Tenn. for the first day of the Niswonger Invitational.
