Appalachian State University women's basketball dropped a non-conference game to North Carolina A&T on Wednesday, 62-43, to make its overall record
1-5 this season.
The Mountaineers (1-5, 0-1 SoCon) fell to the Aggies for the first time in series history on Wednesday, while N.C. A&T improved to 5-1 on the season. The Apps started the game strong, taking a quick 11-3 lead in the first three minutes of the game to force an Aggie timeout, but N.C. A&T would close the half out by going on a 12-0 run to take a 23-18 lead at halftime.
Neither team could find their groove from the floor in the first half as the Apps shot a 29.2 (7-24) field goal percentage and the Aggies shot 26.7 percent (8-30). KeKe Cooper led the Mountaineers with nine points at the half.
The Aggies would improve on their shooting in the second half, while the Apps would lag behind as N.C. A&T went on a 12-2 run to lead the game 49-29 with eight minutes left of play. N.C. A&T continued to find points and the Mountaineers could not catch up as the Aggies took the game with a score of 62-43.
Despite the loss, two players scored in double-figures for Appalachian. Maryah Sydnor led the team in points with 13 and pulled down 7 rebounds for the Apps. Cooper recorded her third double-double of the season by scoring 11 points and notching a career-high 14 rebounds for the team.
Tracy King led the Aggies, scoring 16 points on the game, while Eboni Ross recorded 15 points. April McRae pulled down a team-high ten rebounds in the game.
The Mountaineers ended the game shooting 29.6 (16-54) percent from floor, while N.C. A&T had 38.3 (23-60) shooting percentage in the game.
The team tied in total rebounds, both recording 43 on the game. The Mountaineers dished out nine assists and tallied 24 turnovers as the Aggies had 12 assists and 14 turnovers on the game.
The Mountaineers will travel to Missoula, Montana to compete in the Lady Griz Classic this weekend. Appalachian will take on UC Irvine on Friday, Dec. 6 at 7:30 p.m.
