Lees-McRae College freshman Mike Chambers (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and sophomore Alyssa Munson (Summerfield, N.C.) have been named the Male and Female Student-Athletes of the Month for November 2013, announced College officials Tuesday.
Chambers has enjoyed a strong start to his collegiate career, leading the Bobcats in scoring through the first month of the season with an average of 17.3 points per game. The Winston-Salem, N.C. native played a pivotal role in the Bobcats’ first 3-0 start as a member of the NCAA, averaging 14 points per game while converting 22-of-26 at the charity stripe. Chambers put together his best performance of the campaign, against No. 24 Livingstone pouring in a game-high 35 points on 10-of-15 shooting and a 12-for-14 night at the free throw line.
Munson is in the midst of an outstanding season with the Green and Gold, entering the month of December leading the team in scoring (12.9) and rebounding (5.9) while connecting on over 57 percent of her attempts from the floor. The Summerfield, N.C. native posted perhaps the best week of her career at the University of Alaska Fairbanks’ North Star Invitational last week, totaling 58 points and 26 rebounds to rank third and fifth, respectively, in the event’s all-time record book.
The Lees-McRae College Student-Athlete of the Month Award honors one male and one female student-athlete each much from an in-season sport during the 2013-2014 academic year, recognizing their hard work, effort, and athletic performance.
