The Anderson University Women's Basketball Team (6-1, 2-0) hit a game-winning three-pointer with 0.6 seconds remaining to stun Lenoir-Rhyne (4-1, 1-1), 71-70, Saturday afternoon in South Atlantic
Conference action at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.
The Trojans' Emily Willoughby (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) hit the trey on an in-bounds pass from Sierra Simpson (Simpsonville, S.C.) to lift Anderson to the win.
Anderson, which won its sixth straight game, used a balanced scoring attack with five players in double figures led by Jasmine Franklin's (Simpsonville, S.C.) 14 points.
L-R lost for the first time this year despite a game-high 24 points from junior guard Jazmine Charles (Lexington, N.C.) Junior guard Jenni Gust (Colfax, Wis.) added 16 points but the Bears shot just 31 percent (22-of-71) from the field in the losing effort.
Lesley Woods (Raleigh, N.C.) and Alexis Dillard (Taylors, S.C.) added 12 points each in a contest which featured 11 ties and 11 lead changes. Neither team led by more than eight points in the game
A lane violation negated a free throw by Charles and kept the Bears' advantage at two points with eight seconds left before Willoughby's heroics ended the contest. L-R also held a 50-41 advantage on the boards led by senior guard Alexis Katt (Euharlee, Ga.) with 12 rebounds despite the loss.
Lenoir-Rhyne travels to Wingate, N.C., on Tuesday to face Wingate in a South Atlantic Conference game on Tuesday beginning at 4:00 p.m. Anderson plays Lincoln Memorial in Harrogate, Tenn., on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.
