The Anderson Volleyball Team (17-13) advanced to the semifinals with a 3-0 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne (17-10) Friday evening in the opening round of the 2013 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament at Eleazer Arena.

The sixth-seeded Trojans defeated the third-seeded Bears by scores of 27-25, 25-21 and 25-23. With the victory, Anderson advanced to the semifinal round on Saturday and will take on second-seeded Tusculum (21-9) at 4:00 p.m. The Trojans were led by Hailey Pittman (Orlando, Fla.) with 15 kills while Shannon Gillespie (Fishers, Ind.) added 14 kills and nine digs in the win.

Lenoir-Rhyne, which saw its four-match winning streak come to an end, received 42 assists and eight digs from sophomore setter Briana Gottberg (Mooresville, N.C.) while junior outside hitter Haley Rhyne (Statesville, N.C.) finished with a team-high 13 kills despite the loss. Meghan Cautero (Naples, Fla.) totaled 39 assists as well for the Trojans, who hit .358 for the match in defeating the Bears for the second time this year.

Lenoir-Rhyne, which is ranked sixth in this week's NCAA Division II Southeast Region Poll, will wait to see if it earns a berth to the national postseason tournament. The playoffs will be announced on Sunday.
