Lenoir-Rhyne's Michael Green has been named the South Atlantic Conference Football Defensive Player Of The Week, league officials announced today.
Green, a senior free safety from Kingsland, Ga., wins the award for the fourth time in his collegiate career.
In L-R's 62-24 win over Alderson Broaddus last Saturday at home, Green picked off three passes in the third quarter while returning two for touchdowns on back-to-back possessions to break open a close game.
Green also finished with eight tackles against the Battlers and his touchdown returns were of 64 and 45 yards, respectively.
Green, a two-time All-South Atlantic Conference honoree as both a defensive back and return specialist (2011-12), leads the league in interceptions with seven and is third on the team in tackles with 60 this year.
Green is Lenoir-Rhyne's all-time leader in interception yards (374) and punt return yards (832) and his 17 picks rank fourth all-time in school history. Green also has five career touchdowns - two on punt returns and three on interceptions.
Mars Hill's Trent Miller and Catawba's Chad Hollandsworth were named the South Atlantic Conference Football Offensive and Special Teams Players Of The Week, respectively.
Lenoir-Rhyne (9-1, 6-0), winners of nine straight, wraps up the regular season against league-rival Catawba (6-4, 3-3) on Saturday beginning at 1:30 p.m., in Salisbury, N.C. The Bears have won the 2013 SAC Championship outright, their third consecutive league title.
