The Anderson Volleyball Team (12-11, 11-6) rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Lenoir-Rhyne (13-8, 10-7), 3-2, Saturday afternoon in a South Atlantic Conference contest at the Abney Athletic Center. The Trojans, winners of two straight, defeated the Bears by scores of 25-21, 14-25, 9-25, 25-23 and 15-9.
Anderson was led by Shannon Gillespie (Fishers, Ind.) with a match-high 22 kills to go along with 19 digs while Meghan Cautero (Naples, Fla.) added 46 assists and 10 digs in the win.
Junior outside hitter Haley Rhyne (Statesville, N.C.) finished with a team-high 19 kills and sophomore setter Briana Gottberg (Mooresville, N.C.) added a double-double - 47 assists and 11 digs - but the Bears suffered their third straight five-set loss.
Alix Hooker (Plant City, Fla.) added a match-high 31 digs for the Trojans, who avenged an earlier loss to the Bears.
Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore outside hitter Morgan Bunker (Mount Airy, N.C.) was a second player to notch a double-double for the Bears, finishing with 17 kills and 11 digs, despite the setback.
Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to host ninth-ranked Wingate on Friday in a South Atlantic Conference match beginning at 7:00 p.m., at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium. Anderson plays Mars Hill on the road Friday at 7:00 p.m., as well.
