The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Soccer Team (9-7-1, 4-5-1) notched its second straight shutout victory with a 1-0 triumph over Brevard (5-10, 3-7) Wednesday afternoon in a South Atlantic Conference contest.
L-R junior midfielder Zach Carles (Leesport, Pa.) scored the lone goal of the match in the victory. Carles registered the goal at the 81:29 mark of the second half after receiving a cross in the box from freshman defender Josh Alderson (Formby, ENGLAND) and heading the ball into the net.
The goal was Carles' first of the year while Alderson was credited with the assist. Alderson has a team-leading four assists on the season as well. Lenoir-Rhyne senior goalkeeper Stefan Dill (Southampton, BERMUDA) earned his sixth shutout of the year after stopping four shots on the day. The Bears also held a 20-11 advantage in shots taken.
Heath Turner (Kansas City, Mo.) suffered the loss in goal for the Tornados despite allowing just one goal while totaling six saves. Brevard also suffered its second straight setback.
Lenoir-Rhyne closes out the regular season on Saturday when it travels to Charlotte, N.C., to take on Queens in a conference match beginning at 4:30 p.m. Brevard, meanwhile, faces Coker in Hartsville, S.C., on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
