Wood Named NW3A/4A Player Of Year PDF Print

The accolades just keep pouring in for Watauga High senior Savanna Wood. Wood has been named the Player of the Year in the Northwestern 3A/4A Conference. Wood won the individual championship in the NW3A/4 for the second time in three years. She nosed out Patricia Thompson of South Caldwell for the championship by 11 shots.

 

 

 

Wood was also a four-time state qualifier for the Pioneers, and a three-time state place finisher. She finished in a sixth-place tie at the North Carolina High School Athletic Associaton Class 4A state championships in Pinecrest on Monday and Tuesday of this week. Wood, who had an 80 in the opening round, moved up six spots in the standings with a three-over par 75 in the final round on Tuesday.

 

She had a two-day total of 155, and finish six shots behind state champion Emilia Migliaccio of Raleigh-Athens Drive, who finished the tournament with a two-day total of 149 and bested the field by two shots.

 

Wood finished 12th as a junior and fourth as a sophomore. Wood will attend Appalachian State University next fall.

 

Jamie Wilson of the Pioneers was named Coach of the Year. Joining Wood on the all-conference team was Mary Seramur, who finished finished in sixth place in the NW3A/4A Conference, and turned in a 38th place finish at the NCHSAA Class 4A Western Regional at the Brushy Mountain Golf Course in Taylorsville, N.C.

 

South Caldwell won the NW3A/4A championship with a score of 791; WHS finished in second place with a score of 835.
