Steve Breitenstein, who was an assistant coach on Watauga High 1978 state championship team, has announced that members of that squad, and members

of the 2006 and 2007 teams that made consecutive Final Four appearances, will all meet in the high school cafeteria at 5 p.m. Friday night.

The Pioneers, who will be celebrating Senior Night, will honor the 1978 state championship team and their coach Bill Maudlin at halftime on Friday evening. It is the 35th anniversary of WHS' state championship.


The Pioneers will also be retiring the respective jerseys of former WHS' greats Eric Breitenstein (#2) and Danny Triplett (#82) at halftime. Members of the 2006 and 2007 teams that reach western finals will also be present for that ceremony.


Breitenstein and Triplett will also be featured during Friday night's broadcast of Pioneers football on AM 1450, WATA and Breitenstein will be featured during the pre-game show; Triplett will be featured at halftime.


Senior Night activities will be held during pre-game ceremonies.


Friday night will also be Pack the Pantries Night for Watauga County and the Watauga County Humaine Society. Please bring canned goods to help the Pioneers pack those pantries. And it will also be Pioneer Pride Night.
