The Lenoir-Rhyne Football Team climbed two spots in this week's AFCA NCAA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll to No. 22 and sit atop the first D-II Super Region II rankings of the season.

The AFCA is the American Football Coaches Association while the super regional rankings are the official rankings for playoff qualification. Lenoir-Rhyne (7-1, 5-0) has won seven straight games and is off to its best start since the 1967 season.

L-R is also alone atop the South Atlantic Conference standings and will host 16th-ranked Carson-Newman (7-1, 3-1) in a key league and region showdown Saturday afternoon at Moretz Stadium beginning at 2:00 p.m.

Newberry (7-1, 4-1) is the third South Atlantic Conference team ranked nationally this week at No. 25. The top six teams in the Super Region on Sunday, November 17, will qualify for the NCAA Division II Football Championship Playoffs. The top two teams receive a bye to the second round of the playoffs.

Last season, the Bears earned their first playoff berth in 50 years and won their first postseason contest since 1962. Lenoir-Rhyne defeated Fort Valley State, 21-6, before falling to Carson-Newman in the second round of the playoffs by a 38-35 score.
