A North Wilkesboro man died Monday after suffering a head injury on the job at a Main Street, North Wilkesboro building. The Wilkes Journal-Patriot said that Luiz Alberto Corado, 32, of Third Street, North Wilkesboro, was working for Martin Roofing of Wilkesboro, workers replacing the roof on the Black Tie Affair building when he was hit by a brick, dropped from overhead. The N.C. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration Division is investigating, according to the paper, which reports the investigation is standard procedure when a workplace-related fatality occurs.  The probes usually take several months. The paper quoted Martin Roofing President Matthew Dice and an employee who was on the scene when the accident occurred both said Corado was standing on the ground in front of the building when a brick fell and struck him in the head. Corado was said to be conscious when transported to Wilkes Regional Medical Center, but later died after being transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center after his condition worsened.
