WHS Netters Eliminated by Rams PDF Print

The Watauga High volleyball team spotted Asheville-Roberson a two game lead, rallied, but fell short in its

comeback bid Tuesday night in Asheville, N.C..

 

 

 

The Rams (17-6), the No.1 seed from the Moutain Athletic 3A/4A Conference, defeated WHS 3-2 in the second round of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Class 4A state playoffs. It was WHS' (15-9) earliest exit from the playoffs since 1999 (the Pioneers were eliminated by R.J. Reynolds in the first round that year). The Rams defeated WHS 28-26, 25-16, 23-25, 19-25, 15-10.

 

The Rams will play Charlotte Catholic in the sectional finals Thursday night in Charlotte. The Chargers (24-2), the No.1 seed from the South Mecklenburg 8 Conference, advanced by knocking off Hopewell, 3-0.

 

Savannah Rusher paced WHS with 22 assists and three aces in the loss; Sarah Combs added 21 assists. Rebecca Hayes had 16 kills and nine blocks; Meredith Farthing had eight kills and 16 digs; Sierra Hill had 11 kills; Sarah Petersen had seven kills; Sarah Farthing and Kiersten McClannon had 20 digs apiece.
