Smith, Kanoy Finish Fourth At Regionals PDF Print

Meghan Smith and Kelsi Kanoy will represent the Watauga High girl's tennis team at the state tournament in Raleigh this weekend.


Smith and Kanoy qualified for the state tournament by winning at pair of matches at the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Class 4A Western Regional at Cornelius-Hough High School on Friday. Smith and Kanoy finished fourth as they dropped a pair of matches in the final round of regionals on Monday.

Smith and Kanoy lost to a doubles team from Ardrey Kell in the semifinals, 6-0, 6-1; they lost to a doubles team from Lake Norman, 7-5, 6-0, in the third-place match.

The WHS girls take on Ardrey Kell in the second round of the NCHSAA Class 4A state dual team playoffs Tuesday afternoon in Charlotte. The Pioneers (11-3) are the No.1 seed from the Northwestern 3A/4A Conference; the Knights (12-0) are the No.1 seed from the South Mecklenburg 8 Conference.
