|Cox Earns Freshman Of Week Honors|

The Southern Conference named its football players of the week Monday for all games played Saturday, Oct. 19. Wofford quarterback Michael Weimer was
named the Offensive Player of the Week, while Chattanooga’s Wes Dothard was tabbed the Defensive Player of the Week. Appalachian State running back Marcus Cox earned the league’s Freshman of the Week honor, while Furman kicker Ray Early was named the Special Teams Player of the Week. The players of the week are selected by the league office.
Running back Marcus Cox accounted for 162 all-purpose yards in Appalachian State’s 27-10 loss at Furman. Cox rushed 21 times for 118 yards and averaged 5.6 yards per carry. It was his second 100-yard rushing performance this season. The Dacula, Ga., native also caught six passes for 44 yards. He ranks second in the Southern Conference with 156.1 all-purpose yards per game. It is the third time this season Cox has earned the Freshman of the Week honor.
