Bears Blank Tusculum, Win Eighth Straight PDF Print

The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Soccer Team (10-2-1, 6-0-1) won its eighth straight match, 3-0, over Tusculum (5-6-3, 3-2-2) Saturday afternoon in a South Atlantic Conference contest at the Moretz

Three different players scored for the Bears while sophomore midfielder Kendall Smith (Asheville, N.C.) added a pair of assists as L-R remained tied for first place in the league standings with Wingate.


Lenoir-Rhyne is now 26-0-1 in its last 27 league matches dating back to the 2010 campaign.


L-R junior defender Kayla Stamey (Hudson, N.C.) opened the scoring in the ninth minute with a goal to the far post off a corner kick from Smith.


Lenoir-Rhyne made it a 2-0 contest when sophomore midfielder Garcelle Alequine (Wilmington, Del.) scored at the 39:54 mark of the first half. Smith was once again credited with the assist.


Finally, L-R junior midfielder Lauren Donovan (Hollywood, Md.) rounded out the scoring in the 60th minute. The goal was Donovan's first of the season.


Lenoir-Rhyne junior goalkeeper Genny Little (Fredericksburg, Va.) earned the shutout victory and improved to 9-0 on the season. Little made two saves for the Bears, who held a 20-6 advantage in shots taken in the contest.


Tusculum's goalkeeper, Marissa Williams (Canton, Mich.), took the loss despite tallying six saves on the afternoon. The Pioneers also dropped their third straight match.


Lenoir-Rhyne travels to Salisbury, N.C., to face Catawba in a league match on Wednesday beginning at 5:00 p.m. Tusculum hosts Lincoln Memorial on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m., as well.
