|Smith, Kanoy Qualify For State|

The doubles team of Kelsi Kanoy and Meghan Smith of the Watauga High girl's tennis team will be making its way to the state tournament next weekend, October 25-26. Kanoy and Smith qualified by winning
their first two matches on Friday at the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Class 4A West Regional at Cornilus-Hough High School
They defeated a doubles team from Charlotte-Myers Park, 6-4, 6-2; in the opening round, and they qualified for the semifinal round---which automatically guarantees them a trip to states---by knocking off a doubles team from Charlotte-Independance, 6-0, 6-2, in their second match of the day.
They were scheduled to play a doubles team from Charlotte-Ardrey Kell on Saturday, but the tournament was rained out. Play will resume on Monday.
Senior Meredith Smith of the Pioneers, playing singles, lost to Grace Deering of Charlotte Catholic, 6-0, 6-2, in the first round. The Pioneers (11-3 in duals) take on Ardrey Kell (12-0, and the No.1 seed from the South Mecklenburg 8 Conference) in the second round of the state dual team playoffs on Tuesday in Charlotte.
