|Wood Wins NW3A/4A Title|

For the second time in three years, Watauga High senior Savanna Wood captured the Northwestern 3A/4A Conference championship in girl's golf.
Wood completed her quest with a one-over-par 37 on Monday at the Quakers Meadows Golf Course in Morganton, N.C. Her closet competitor, Patricia Thompson of South CaldWell, who began the day three shots behind Wood, struggled and fired a 45. She finished in a sixth-place tie, and 11 shots behind Wood for the title with a total score of 205.
Bree Keller of Hickory finished second on Monday with a 41. She finished third in the championship race with a score of 213. Mary Seramur of the Pioneers finished in a third-place tie at six over with a 42. Seramur also finished sixth overall with a total score of 224, one shot behind fifth-place finisher Faith Snonce of St. Stephens, who had a 223.
The Pioneers won the meet with a team score of 132, nosing out South Caldwell, which finished second with a 135. But the Spartans captured the NW3A/4A title with a 791. WHS finished in second play with an 835, 44 shots off the pace.
WHS will compete in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Class 4A Western Regional at Brushy Mountain Golf Course in Taylorsville, N.C., next Monday.
