Lenoir-Rhyne's Michael Green has been named the South Atlantic Conference Football Special Teams Player Of The Week, league officials announced this afternoon.
Green, a senior defensive back and return specialist from Kingsland, Ga., returned a punt 33 yards in the first quarter which set up Lenoir-Rhyne's third touchdown of the game last Saturday against North Greenville.
Green finished with two punt returns for 42 yards in Lenoir-Rhyne's 35-17 victory over the Crusaders on the road in Tigerville, S.C.
Green also added a game-high 13 tackles against North Greenville as L-R won its fifth consecutive contest.
Green, a two-time First-Team All-South Atlantic Conference and all-region honoree as both a defensive back and return specialist, is currently third on the team in tackles (37) this season to go along with two interceptions and two pass break-ups.
In the game against North Greenville, Green also became the school's all-time leader in punt return yards with 745. Green has returned two punts for touchdowns in his career as well, both in 2011.
Newberry's W.T. Murden and Brevard's Jacob McCleery were named the South Atlantic Conference Offensive and Defensive Players Of The Week, respectively.
Lenoir-Rhyne (5-1, 3-0) hosts No. 23 Newberry (6-0, 4-0) in a South Atlantic Conference showdown on Saturday at 2:00 p.m., at Moretz Stadium. The Bears and the Wolves play for the Bishops Trophy, which is given annually to the winner of the two Lutheran schools in North and South Carolina.
