Appalachian State University field hockey dropped a match 9-1 to NorPac opponent Liberty on Sunday. The Flames took the early lead when Jordan Richardson scored off a breakaway at the 8:26 minute
mark to make the score 1-0.
The Mountaineers answered with a goal by Lynnae Luettich in the 14th minute of the match from Hanna French. The goal is the freshman's third of the season.
Liberty responded right back with three goals in a row from Natalie Barr and Sarah Gipe. The goals would make the score 4-1 at the half.
The second half began with an immediate goal for the Flames from Bethany Barr at the top of the circle. The Flames would not let up, scoring four more times from Hannah Jones, Serena Barr and Natalie Barr with no answer from the Mountaineers.
Sarah Anderson recorded seven saves for the Black and Gold while in goal. Goalkeeper Cristina Ceppi also found time, notching two saves during the match.
Appalachian recorded just five shots on the match to Liberty's 27. The Apps tallied two penalty corners while the Flames had 11 on the match. The Mountaineers will return to action when they travel to Philadelphia next weekend to take on Temple and Penn.
