|Davidson Nips App State In Overtime|

Appalachian State University field hockey was defeated 4-3 in overtime by NorPac foe Davidson on Friday night. The Mountaineers took the lead quickly in the match, scoring seven minutes in off the stick of Lynnae Luettich from Laura Malinoski and Emily Knapp.
Davidson answered two minutes later when Anna Federico found the net with a shot over the goalie's head. Appalachian took the lead again with a goal from Casten Farr from Lindsay Amador. The Mountaineers scored once more to make the score 3-1 when Jessi Stuart found the net with assists from Amador and Malinoski.
Davidson answered with a goal from Melissa Funsten to make the score 3-2 at halftime. The Wildcats tied up the score in the second half when Katherine English scored off a corner to send the game into overtime.
Davidson found a goal from Anna Davis with 3:51 remaining in overtime and the Apps would not respond, giving the victory to the Wildcats 4-3. Luettich and Stuart each recorded two shots on the match, while goalkeeper Sarah Anderson tallied 14 saves.
Appalachian was outshot 25 to seven and had five penalty corners to Davidson's nine. The Mountaineers will return to action on Sunday when they take on NorPac opponent Liberty in Lynchburg, Va. at 2 p.m.
