The Watauga High junior varsity football team suffered a heartbreaking loss Thursday night. The Pioneers (4-2 overall; 2-1 Northwestern 3A/4A Conference) dropped a 34-28 decision to Freedom in overtime

down in  Morganton, N.C. The loss snapped WHS' four-game winning streak.

"It was a good game," said WHS JV coach Dustin Kerley. "We lost, but we had our chances. It was a good effort by the kids. We just came up a little short at the end."

Caleb Bryson and Evan Suggs each scored two touchdowns apiece. Byrson scored on a one-yard run and a two-yard scamper. Suggs scored on a three-yard run and a two-yard jaunt. Bryson also threw a two-point conversion pass to Case Taylor; Chase Palm had two extra points.
