Appalachian State University baseball will hold its annual intrasquad Fall World Series beginning on Thursday afternoon at Beaver Field at Jim and Bettie Smith Stadium.
The Fall World Series is a best-of-five intrasquad series that not only allows second-year head coach Billy Jones and his staff to evaluate their team in a game-like setting but also serves as the basis for bragging rights throughout the winter for the winning squad. Black and Gold teams for the World Series will be drafted on Wednesday evening.
World Series games are scheduled to be held Thursday, Friday, Monday (Oct. 14), Tuesday (Oct. 15) and next Wednesday (Oct. 16). All contests are slated to begin at 4:30 p.m. except for the potential series-deciding Game 5, which will start next Wednesday at 3 p.m. Fans are welcome to attend all five games and admission is free.
Appalachian State returns seven position starters and 3-of-4 starting pitchers from last year’s club, which went 30-24 and advanced to the semifinals of the Southern Conference Tournament. The Mountaineers are also buoyed by the return of three-year starter Tyler Zupcic (Charlotte, N.C./Providence), who is back on the field after sitting out all of last season due to a severe leg injury sustained in the 2012 NCAA Regionals.
