|WHS XC Competes At Ashe County|

The Watuaga High boy's and girl's cross country team made a trip to West Jefferson, N.C., Tuesday for a non-conference meet at Ashe County High.
The WHs girls had four runners in the top ten and eight runners in the top 20. Mandy Eagle-Farrar paced the Pioneers by finishing seventh in 24:29.3. Jesse Wangler was eighth in 25:01; Maddie Allain was ninth (25:10.7); Barbara Ramsdell was tenth (25:15.9).
Jordyn Halvorsen of Wilkes Central won the race in 22:28.1. Ashe County won the meet with a team score of 19 points. WHS finished second with 36 points.
The Huskies had seven runners in the 20, including three in the top four. Mac Church of the Huskies finishesd second in 22:41.6. Tyler Eller of the Huskies finished third in 23:20.4, and Alexes Armstrong of Ashe County finished fourth in 23:25.8.
In the boy's race, the Pioneers had three runners in the top ten and seven in the top 20. Bill Bisignani of the Pioneers led the way by finishing fifth in 19:18.1. Gabe Irwin of WHS finished eighth in 19:39.3, adn Devin Windelspect was ninth in 19:47.3.
The Pioneers finished third as a team with 55 points; Ashe County won the meet with 34 points. Andrew Tedder of the Huskies won the race in 17:43.2; teammate Gareth Berry finished a close second in 17:48.6. Ashe County had three runners in the top ten and seven in the top 20.
WHS will not compete in the United Way Invitational today in Conover, N.C. The Pioneers will compete in the Northwestern 3A/4A Conference championships in Morganton next Wednesday, October 16. Freedom High will host the championships this season.
