Wood Maintains Conference Lead PDF Print

Savanna Wood suffered her first loss of the year in Northwestern 3A/4A Conference play on Monday afternoon. But despite that setback, the Watauga High senior still maintains a three-shot lead for the

individual championship in league play.

 

 

Wood, who is looking for her second conference title in three years, fired a five-over par 41 and finished just one shot behind Patricia Thompson of South Caldwell for medalist honors at the Mimosa Hills Golf & Country Club in Morganton, N.C. Freedom High was the host school.

 

Thompson, who is chasing Wood for the conference championship, fired a four-under par 40 to best the field. Madison Cross of Hickory finished third with a 44. Mary Seramer of the Pioneers finished in fifth place with a nine-over par 45.

 

South Caldwell took a major step towards winning the conference championship by winning the match with a team score of 128. The Spartans own a 47 shot lead on WHS with one match left on the schedule. The Pioneers finished second on Monday with a 141. Hickory finished third with a 144.

 

Victoria Stapleton of the Pioneers fired a 55; Victoria Shukis of WHS had a 58. The Pioneers wrap up the regular seaosn next Monday back at Mimosa. Patton will be the host school.
