The Watauga High volleyball team knocked off Patton Monday night, avenging an earlier loss (3-1 in Morganton on September 11) to the Panthers this season.

WHS (7-5 Northwestern 3A/4A Conference; 13-7 overall) defeated Patton 3-0 at Lentz-Eggers Gym. The Pioneers won 25-16, 25-6, 25-18. The win also guarantees WHS a non-losing record in league play. And the Pioneers also won their fourth in a row in conference play.

Rebecca Hays, Sarah Combs and Savannah Rusher paced WHS Monday night. Hayes led the way up front with 14 kills and five blocks; Combs had 15 assists; Rusher had 17 assists. Sydney Farthing and Abby Hicks were stallworths on defense as they combined for 22 digs (Farthing had 12, Hicks had ten).

Kiersten McClannon had four aces and eight digs, Sarah Petersen finished with six kills, Meredith Farthing had five kills, Sierra Hill had four kills and four blocks.

WHS won the junior varsity game, 2-0 (25-10, 25-21). Callie Idol led the way with four kills, Tayler McCune had three kills, Olivia Williamson had three kills and three blocks, and Rusher, who pulled double-duty on varsity and JV, finished with a team-high nine assists.

The Pioneers travel to Hickory Wednesday night; they play South Caldwell at home next Monday night. That will also be Senior Night, and if WHS wins, the Pioneers will also clinch the No.1 seed among the Class 4A schools in the NW3A/4A Conference.
