Bears Notch Road Win At Carson Newman PDF Print

The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Soccer Team (6-2-1, 3-0-1) stayed in the race for the South Atlantic Conference title with a key road win against Carson-Newman (2-4-2, 1-2-1), 3-2, Saturday evening at

McCown Field.



L-R sophomore midfielder Garcelle Alequine (Wilmington, Del.) scored twice to lead the Bears to their fourth straight win. Alequine now has a team-leading six goals on the year.


Alequine's goals were the first two of the match as Lenoir-Rhyne was able to hold on for the victory.


Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore midfielder Kendall Smith (Asheville, N.C.) pushed the Bears' margin to 3-1 in the 75th minute after finishing off her own blocked shot.


Carson-Newman cut the advantage to 3-2 on Gabrielle Gianselli's (Knoxville, Tenn.) goal at the 79:53 mark of the match with the goalkeeper out of the net but L-R was able to prevail.


Lenoir-Rhyne junior goalkeeper Genny Little (Fredericksburg, Va.) improved to 5-0 on the year after earning the win. Little tallied three saves on the day.


For Carson-Newman, Mikayla Gregg (Newport, Tenn.) tallied the team's first score but Tiarna McKenna (Lisburn, NORTH IRELAND) suffered the loss in goal despite making four saves.


Lenoir-Rhyne, which is now 23-0-1 in its last 24 league regular season contests dating back three years, also held a 16-8 advantage in shots taken.


L-R returns home to face Mars Hill on Wednesday beginning at 5:00 p.m., in a conference match while Carson-Newman plays Lincoln Memorial on the road Wednesday at 1:00 p.m., in Harrogate, Tenn.
