The Watauga High football team marched its way to a 48-10 win Friday night against Fred T. Foard at Tiger Stadium in a Northwestern 3A/4A Conference game in Newton, N.C.
Quarterback Aaron Dobbins turned in another stellar performance. The WHS sophomore threw for 228 yards and four touchdowns. Three of those went to senior wide out Cam Baker.
The Pioneers (6-0 overall; 2-0 NW3A/4A Conference) jumped out to a 21-0 lead, but the Tigers (0-6; 0-2) narrowed the gap at 21-10, thanks to an 18-yard TD pass from Alexander Toy to Deante Powell with 2:37 left in the first half and a 27-yard field goal by Ryan Campbell as time expired.
But WHS put the game away with two quick scores (just 54-seconds apart) to start the second half.
A 49-yard TD run by Dobbins on WHS' first possession of the second half made it 28-10; an interception by Jackson Carr gave WHS the ball at the Tigers' 15-yard-line. T.J. Poulos popped it in on a 13-yard jaunt two plays later for a commanding 35-10 lead.
