Pioneers Sweep Patriots PDF Print

The Watauga High volleyball team marched its way back to the .500 mark in Northwestern 3A/4A Conference play by picking up a road win at Freedom Monday night. The Pioneers (11-6 overall; 5-5 NW3A/4A) defeated the Patriots in a three-game sweep, 25-14, 25-11, 25-5. Sarah Combs aided the cause with 18 assists. Whitney Dunnigan chipped in with 12 assists and six aces. Sarah Petersen had 11 kills and three blocks; Meredith Farthing had nine kills; Sierra Hill had seven kills and two blocks; Rebecca Hayes had five kills and five blocks; Kiersten McClannon had five aces.

WHS won the junior varsity match, 2-0. The Pioneers won gvame one, 25-0. Savannah Rusher had five assists and 13 aces. She served the entire first set. WHS won the second game, 25-4. Reina Marze had eight aces; Callie Idol had five kills.

The Pioneers return home to play Hibriten Wednesday; they travel to Mountain Heritage on Thursday.
