You can say one thing about the Watauga High girl's tennis team. Since 1996, the Pioneers have had several different coaches, but they've been a resilent group.
WHS has rattled off more than its share of conference championships. And the Pioneers clinched a tie for the Northwestern 3A/4A Conference title Monday night. WHS

clobbered Freedom 8-1 in Morganton. The win leads the Pioneers (9-3 overall) with an unblemished 6-0 record with one conference match left to play.

The Pioneers will host Hibriten on Senior Day Wednesday at the WHS Tennis Courts. The Pioneers wrap up the regular season at home Saturday in a non-conference match against Roxboro-Person.

WHS, riding a five-match winning streak, took control of the match by grabbing a 6-0 lead in singles play.

Meredith Smith led the way with a straight sets win at No.1 singles. Smith defeated Danna Huffman of the Patriots, 6-0, 6-0. Meghan Smith followed suit with a straight sets win (6-0, 6-0) against Olivia Noles.  Kelsi Kanoy, Liz Clark, Savannah Copeland and Ali Maupin were also victorious in singles play.
