Appalachian State University volleyball player Meghan Mahoney (Leawood, Kan./Blue Valley) was named Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday, Sept. 30. Mahoney, a sophomore libero from Leawood, Kan., played a pivotal role in both of the conference matches last week, finishing the Davidson match with 20 digs and the Western Carolina match with 36.

Mahoney currently ranks second in the conference in total number of digs on the season with 321 and average digs per set with 5.44.  She now ranks 12th in the nation in digs per set and has led the Apps to a 33rd national ranking in team digs per set.

This is Mahoney’s second conference honor this season as she was named Defensive Player of the Week on September 2.

Mahoney and the rest of the Mountaineers will return to action on Friday, Oct. 4 when they take on SoCon opponent Chattanooga in Chattanooga, Tenn.
