The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Soccer Team (4-2-1, 2-0-1) picked up a key South Atlantic Conference victory over Lincoln Memorial (4-2-1, 3-1), 3-1, Saturday afternoon at the Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex thanks to three first-half goals. L-R sophomore midfielder Garcelle Alequine (Wilmington, Del.) scored two goals as the Bears
improved to 4-0 at home this year.
Junior defender Hanna Kiebel (Parker, Colo.) opened the scoring just 4:55 into the contest when she finished off a pass to the center from sophomore forward Leah Mullins (Kissimmee, Fla.) with a one-touch past the keeper. Mullins was credited with the assist.
Alequine rounded out the scoring for the Bears with a pair of goals for a 3-0 advantage entering halftime.
Alequine finished off a rebound shot off the cross bar before scoring on a double assist by sophomore forward Hallie Hilliard (Lenoir, N.C.) and sophomore defender Amber Madriaga (Wailuku, Hawahii). Michelle Hunter (Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada) scored the lone goal of the match for the Lady Railsplitters in the 62nd minute of the second half.
Junior goalkeeper Genny Little (Fredericksburg, Va.) earned the win for the Bears, who improved to 22-0-1 in their last 23 league matches dating back three seasons. Little allowed just one goal while stopping four shots on the day.
Lincoln Memorial's goalkeeper, Kayla Stephens (Keller, Texas), suffered the loss despite tallying five saves on the afternoon. Lenoir-Rhyne next faces Belmont Abbey on the road on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m., in Belmont, N.C. Lincoln Memorial hosts Trevecca Navarene Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
