Appalachian State University women’s soccer (3-4-1, 0-0-1) drew the UNCG Spartans (4-4-1, 0-0-1) in both teams first conference action of the season on Thursday evening.

The first half of the game saw no scoring from either team, but a healthy number of shots from the Mountaineers. App State outshot the Spartans by a six to four tally in the first 45 minutes and both teams would head to the locker room deadlocked at 0-0.

The Spartans were able to get on the board first with a goal in the 52nd minute on a goal from Chesney White with an assist from Zoe Fishman.

The lead for the Spartans would last until the 75th minute when Jane Cline was able to net the equalizer for her first goal of the season. Cline found control of the ball in the box and ripped a rocket into the left corner to tie the game 1-1.

Megan Roberson was back in net for Sarah Strickland’s squad and made three saves on the night and just allowed the one goal.

UNCG led in shots by a 16-14 advantage over the Apps. The Spartans held advantages in fouls and corner kicks fouling eight more times than the Mountaineers holding a 13-five edge and doubling the Mountaineers on corner kicks eight to four.

The Mountaineers return to action on Sunday when they take on Elon at Appalachian Soccer Stadium. Kick off is set for 3 p.m.
