The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Soccer Team (5-2, 1-1) had its four-match winning streak come to an end with 2-0 loss to Coker (3-1-2, 2-0-1) Wednesday night at the Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex in a
South Atlantic Conference contest.
Coker's Daniel Jackson (Silver Springs, Md.) scored both goals for the Cobras late in the first half en route to the win. Jackson's first score came in the 33rd minute when he took advantage of a failed clear before beating several defenders to shoot back across the goal at the 38:39 mark for the 2-0 advantage.
Tony Quiroz (Miami, Fla.) and Fernando Bedoya (Miami, Fla.) were credited with the assists, respectively, for the Cobras. Lenoir-Rhyne lost despite holding a 22-10 edge in shots taken while Coker's Kyndle Cobb (Oviedo, Fla.) picked up the shutout victory in goal. Cobb tallied nine saves on the night.
Lenoir-Rhyne senior goalkeeper Stefan Dill (Southampton, BERMUDA), the reigning conference player of the week, took the loss despite making a pair of saves. L-R remains at home to host Lincoln Memorial in a South Atlantic Conference match on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. Coker faces Queens in Charlotte, N.C., in a league contest on Saturday beginning at 7:00 p.m.
L-R Women Win Conference Opener
The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Soccer Team (3-2-1, 1-0-1) notched a 3-0 shutout victory over Coker (1-6, 0-3) Wednesday evening in a South Atlantic Conference match at the Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex.
L-R sophomore forward Leah Mullins (Kissimmee, Fla.) finished with a pair of goals and an assist to lead the Bears to the win. Mullins opened the scoring in the 23rd minute of play when she finished off a pass by sophomore midfielder Garcelle Alequine (Wilmington, Del.) in the top left corner of the net.
Mullins and Alequine assisted on the Bears' second goal late in the second half at the 80:07 mark. Junior defender Hanna Kiebel (Parker, Colo.) scored on a through ball across the center. Mullins, who leads the squad with four goals this year, finished off the scoring in the 86th minute of action.
The Bears also held a 29-16 edge in shots taken in winning for the first time in four contests.
Junior goalkeeper Genny Little (Fredericksburg, Va.) notched six saves to earn the shutout for the Bears, who improved to 21-0-1 in their last 22 league matches dating back three seasons. Coker's Lizz Morris (Stillwater, N.Y.) suffered the loss in goal despite stopping 13 shots on the night.
Lenoir-Rhyne remains at home on Saturday at 5:00 p.m., when it hosts Lincoln Memorial in a South Atlantic Conference match. Coker, meanwhile, plays at league-foe Queens Saturday beginning at 7:00 p.m.
