Watauga High senior Savannah Wood, who will sign her national letter of intent in November to attend
Appalachian State University next year on a golf scholarship, is off to a great start.
Wood, a three-time state qualifier, won her fourth match of the season in Northwestern 3A/4A Conference play at the Catawba Springs Country Club in Lake Hickory, N.C.. Wood bested the field with a two-over par 38. She nosed out Bree Keller of Hickory and Patricia Thompson of South Caldwell by one shot. Keller and Thompson both shot a three-over par 39.
Wood is the conference leader through three conference matches with a total score of 75. She owns a three-shot lead on Thompson, who is in second place with a 78; Keller is third with an 83, eight shots back.
South Caldwell won the match with a team score of 129. WHS was 13 shots back with a 142; HHS was third with a 144. Mary Seramur of the Pioneers fired a 49 and cracked the top ten by finished tenth in the field. Victoria Stapleton of the Pioneers fired a 55; Victoria Shukus had a 60 and Katie Alexander had a 62.
The Pioneers travel to the Cedar Rock Golf Course in Lenior, N.C., next Monday for a NW3A/4A meet. Hibriten will be the host school.
