Lenoir-Rhyne's Miles Freeman and Joe Anderson were named the South Atlantic Conference Football
Offensive and Defensive Players Of The Week, respectively, league officials announced today.
Freeman, a junior quarterback from Sacramento, Calif., finished with a game-high 179 yards rushing on just 16 carries and scored on a 56-yard touchdown run in a 34-13 victory over Wingate last Saturday in a league contest at home.
Freeman guided the Bears to a 422-yard rushing night and currently leads the squad in rushing yards (376) to go along with two touchdowns. Freeman has crossed the century mark on the ground in two of the team's three contests so far this year.
Freeman has also passed for 179 yards and a pair of scores for the Bears, who are averaging 411.7 yards of total offense so far this season.
Anderson, a junior defensive back from Lilburn, Ga., had a game-tying 13 tackles to go along with a quarterback sack against the Bulldogs. Anderson also helped L-R limit Wingate to just nine yards rushing on the night.
Anderson, who won the weekly defensive honor for the third time in his collegiate career, is currently second on the squad in tackles with 27 to go along with an interception. Newberry's Kyle Clark was named the South Atlantic Conference Football Special Teams Player Of The Week.
Lenoir-Rhyne (2-1, 1-0) returns to action this Saturday against Tusculum (2-1, 0-0) in a South Atlantic Conference contest in Greeneville, Tenn., beginning at 2:30 p.m.
