WHS NETTERS SWEEP CARDINALS PDF Print

The Watauga High volleyball stepped out of league play on Saturday and swept East Wilkes 3-0 in a non-conference match at Lentz-Eggers Gym. The Pioneers (9-5) defeated the Cardinals, 25-9, 25-11, 25-17. Whitney Dunnigan and Meredith Farthing led the charge for WHS. Dunnigan finished with a match high 15 assists; Farthing had 14 kills. The Pioneers have won two straight, and they begin second-round play in the Northwestern 3A/4A Conference Monday night at St. Stephens. WHS begins second-round play a game under .500 (3-4) in league play.
The Pioneers return home to play Fred T. Foard on Wednesday. Rebecca Hayes had nine kills, eight blocks and five aces on Saturday against East Wilkes; Kiersten McClannon had four aces and five digs; Abby Hicks had four aces.
WHS won the junior varsity match, 2-0 (25-14, 25-22). Reina Marze had 16 assists; Savannah Rusher had nine assists; Alexis villarosa had seven kills and two blocks; Callie Idol had five kills; Tayler McCune had eight digs and two aces.
