The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Soccer Team (4-1) won its third straight match with a 2-0 victory over North Georgia (1-5) Wednesday afternoon at the Moretz Sports -
Athletic Complex. L-R junior midfielder Ben Jones (Dagenham, ENGLAND) scored both goals early in the first half to lead the Bears to the victory. Jones now has a team-leading five goals on the season.
Jones opened the scoring just 3:37 into the contest when he finished off a cross by junior defender Conor Doherty (Howell, N.J.) right in front of the net.
Jones scored again on a cross from the right side just before the 10-minute mark of the match. Senior forward Gabriel Jones (Chiswick, ENGLAND) was credited with the assist.
Senior goalkeeper Stefan Dill (Southampton, BERMUDA) earned his second shutout of the year for the Bears, who held an 18-14 advantage in shots taken on the evening. Dill finished with two saves. Kris Alonzo (Lawrenceville, Ga.) picked up the loss in goal for North Georgia, who also suffered its fifth straight setback. Alonzo was credited with four saves on the day.
Lenoir-Rhyne opens South Atlantic Conference play against fifth-ranked Wingate on Saturday in Wingate, N.C., beginning at 7:00 p.m. North Georgia, meanwhile, plays Young Harris on the road in a Peach Belt Conference match on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
