A wildfire that started from a downed power line in the Globe community just off N.C. 90 finally was contained, but burned more acres of land than originally thought. By the time Tuesday's fire was totally contained around 7 p.m., it had burned 120 acres of private and federal forest land in northwestern Caldwell
County, about 40 acres more than original estimates. About 60 firefighters from the North Carolina Forest Service, United States Forest Service and private firefighting contractors returned to the scene Wednesday and spent the day revamping fire containment lines and doing mop-up work on the county's largest wildfire since February 2005 when 100 acres burned off Roby Martin Road.
