Appalachian State University field hockey pulled out the win in its first home match of the 2013 season against NorPac opponent Davidson.
The Mountaineers pulled ahead early in the match scoring off the stick of junior forward Jordyn Warren (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) at the 13:27 minute mark. Warren gathered a loose ball in front of the goal and beat the keeper to the right, scoring her second goal of the season.
Appalachian continued to find the net in the first half after sophomore Lindsay Amador (McLean, Va./Langley) converted off of a chip shot over the keeper’s head. Amador’s second goal of the season would make the score 2-0 at the half.
The Wildcats would not score in the second half until the 63rd minute after earning a penalty corner. Anna Davis would beat the keeper to the right, making the score 2-1.
Davidson’s last chance to tie up the match came one minute later when they were given a penalty stroke.  Melissa Funsten shot the ball over the goal, giving up the tying point.
Senior goalkeeper Sarah Anderson (Lousiville, Ky./Kentucky Country Day) got the win and had seven saves on the night.  She has now tallied 45 saves on the season and has .726 save percentage.
Sophomore Caroline Phillips (Delmar, Del./Delmar) and junior Dana Wetmore (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) each recorded one shot in the match, adding to the team total of four shots overall to Davidson’s 11.
The Mountaineers now move to 1-1 in the NorPac and 2-3 overall.  They will be back in action this weekend when they travel to Harrisonburg, Va. to play James Madison on Saturday and Rider on Sunday.  Both matches are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
