Mansure, Holland Pace WHS At Furman PDF Print

The Watuaga High boy's and girl's cross country teams traveled to Greenville, S.C., Saturday for the Furman Classic. The WHS girls were led by Kathleen Mansure, who

was their only top-20 finisher, in the girl's varsity race. Mansure finished ninth in 19:48.70. Lily Weks was 36th in 21:01.92. Celia Jackson was 38th (21:09.53).
Emma Mashburn of Hardin Valley Academy in Knoxville, TN., won the race in 17:41.78. Charlotte-Providence won the girl's varsity race with 47 points. Hardin Valley finished second with 77 points; WHS was tenth with 233.
Michael Holland paced WHS in the boy's varsity race. He finished 11th in 16:31.24; Will Vandenberg of the Pioneers was 23rd in 17:10.83; Jacob Soule was of WHS was 40th (17:53.64). Wyatt Maxey of Charlotte-Providence won the race in 15:12.88.
The Pioneers finished fifth with 161 points; North Hall High of Gainesville, Ga., won the meet with 50 points. Charlotte-Providence was second with 68 points.
Simran Sethi of the Pioneers was 52nd (25:04.75) in the girl's junior varsity race. WHS was ninth as a team. David Windelspecht was 25th (19:12.61) in the boy's JV race; WHS finished eighth as a team.
The Pioneers return home for a Northwestern 3A/4A Conference meet Wednesday. The Pioneers will also debut their new home course on the WHS campus.
