Lenoir-Rhyne Upends Belmont Abbey, 3-2 PDF Print

The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Soccer Team (3-1) picked up a 3-2 road victory over Belmont Abbey (2-2) Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field. Three different players scored for the Bears, who won their second consecutive contest.
With the score tied at one at halftime, Lenoir-Rhyne took the lead for good on junior midfielder Ben Jones' (Dagenham, ENGLAND) goal in the 61st minute. The score was Jones' team-leading third of the season while junior midfielder Daniel Delderfield (Milton Keyes, ENGLAND) was credited with the assist.
L-R sophomore forward Mattias Thompson (Lahaina, Hawaii) rounded out the scoring for the Bears with a goal, his first of the season, at the 78:51 mark of the second half. Lenoir-Rhyne freshman forward Chris Pitharas (London, ENGLAND) opened the scoring just 1:59 into the contest with his second goal of the year.
Belmont Abbey, which saw its two-match winning streak snapped, was led by Declan McQuillan (Kilkenny, IRELAND) with a goal and an assist despite the loss. In goal, L-R senior Stefan Dill (Southampton, BERMUDA) earned the win after stopping four shots while Belmont Abbey's Kyle Searles (Charlotte, N.C.) suffered the loss. Searles tallied three saves on the day.
Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to host North Georgia on Wednesday beginning at 5:00 p.m., at the Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex. Belmont Abbey, meanwhile, faces Lees-McRae in a Conference Carolinas contest next Saturday at 4:00 p.m., in Banner Elk, N.C.
