Ninth-Ranked Tampa Shuts Out No.14 L-R PDF Print

The ninth-ranked Tampa Women's Soccer Team (4-0) remained unbeaten on the year with a 2-0 victory over No. 14 Lenoir-Rhyne (2-1) Friday afternoon at the Walden Soccer Complex on the first day of the Columbus State Collegiate Invitational.
The Spartans received a pair of second-half goals from Arielle Gonzalez (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Chelsea Martin (Bradenton, Fla.) en route to the win.
Gonzalez opened the scoring in the 61st minute of play when she connected off a corner kick. Both Gabby Russo (Middleton, Mass.) and Audrey Hayward (Brockport, N.Y.) were credited with the assist for Tampa.
The Spartans rounded out the scoring on Martin's goal at the 79:47 mark of the match when she won a one-versus-one with the Lenoir-Rhyne goalkeeper.
Lenoir-Rhyne held a 11-10 advantage in shots taken despite the loss while freshman Andrea Leano (San Diego, Calif.) suffered the loss in goal for the Bears.
For Tampa, goalkeeper Kori Butterfield (Onalaska, Wash.) earned the win and preserved the fourth consecutive shutout for the Spartans. Butterfield made six saves as the Spartans remained unscored upon this season.
Lenoir-Rhyne takes on Nova Southeastern on the final day of the tournament on Sunday at 12:30 p.m., in Columbus, Ga. Tampa faces Tusculum in the first match of the day on Sunday beginning at 10:00 a.m.
