The Blue Ridge Electric Community Leaders Council heard from new North Carolina Department of Commerce Secretary Sharon Decker at a meeting at Jefferson Landing last night, and the secretary had a number of surprising revelations about the job of jobs in the state—one of her final points, that we the people and the assets of our state beyond any ‘deal’ often make the difference in bringing and growing business in North Carolina... She also said that it takes both efforts on the state and local area to grow North Carolina’s economy, “I would tell you that more often times than you want to count businesses relocate, consolidate and more their location not for any hook or financial deal that the county or the city or anybody put in them, but because of a relationship somewhere. It’s a huge driver.  So one of the things you and I must do to make North Carolina business friendly is to build strong communities.” Decker pointed out the importance of art, tourism and culture—one of her five tenets of growing business in the state—and said  North Carolina is the 4th most visited state in the country in spite of being 22nd in spending to bring those visitors here, and needs to invest more. Audio from her presentation is posted on our soundcloud account at https://soundcloud.com/goblueridge/sharon-decker-at-jefferson
