The Watauga High cross country teams had their Northwestern 3A/4A Conference relay meet postponed due to lightning on Wednesday. The inclement weather also delayed the debut of WHS' new home cross country course, which is located right behind the football field house.
"I've been working on it since we moved into the new high school (in 2009-10)," said WHS coach Randy McDonough. "You just walk out the back gate behind the field house, and walk down the hill. There's a big field at the bottom. That's Watauga property. It's also our starting area."
The Pioneers travel to the Furman Classic in Greenville, S.C., on Saturday. The Pioneers will christen their new home course next Wednesday with a NW3A/4A relay meet. The meet was moved from Freedom, which was suppose to host the meet, to WHS, instead.
