The Watauga High volleyball team just can't seem to find its rhythm. The end result, it's been an up-and-down season through the first 11 matches of the season.
WHS' latest pratfall came Wednesday night. The Pioneers (7-4 overall; 2-3 Northwestern 3A/4A Conference) dropped a 3-1 decision at Morganton-Patton. The Pioneers lost 20-25, 27-25, 23-25, 20-25. The loss leaves WHS one game below .500 in the NW3A/4A Conference. The loss also snapped WHS' three-game winning streak.
Meredith Farthing led WHS with 13 kills; Rebecca Hayes had 12 kills, four blocks and six aces. Sarah Combs had 18 assists and Savannah Rusher chipped in with 16 assists. Kiersten McClannon was (19 digs and six kills) and Abby Hicks (10 digs and four aces) added 29 digs between them; MacKenzie Presnell had 11 digs.
WHS won the JV match, 2-0 (25-15, 25-8). Savannah Rusher had 11 assists and eight aces to lead the Pioneers. Tayler McCune had seven kills and four digs, Olivia Williamson had four kills and a block, Hannah Townsend had four digs. The Pioneers return home to play Hickory Monday night.
