Ernie Wilson, a former Fred T. Foard player, has been named the new girl's basketball coach at Fred T.

Foard High School. He replaced Brad Mangum, who resigned after two years on the job. Mangum, who is left to become the girl's head coach at Alexander Central last spring, was 32-21 during his two-year stay with the Tigers, which includes an 18-9 record last season.
Wilson is a non-faculty coach. Wilson was approved by the school board by a recommendation by Foard principal Chris Gibbs. Administrators must recommend and then receive board approval for non-faculty coaches.
Wilson takes over at his alma mater after Magnum guided the Tigers to 14-12 and 18-9 records and to the state 3A playoffs in back-to-back seasons. Foard shared last season’s Northwestern 3A-4A regular-season title with Alexander Central and Hickory. He coached the junior varsity boys at Foard last year and worked with head coach Rob Bliss as a varsity assistant.
